StatSheet's America East Player of the Week for December 24th goes to Stony Brook's Tommy Brenton. StatSheet's America East Freshman of the Week goes to Jameel Warney from Stony Brook. And last but certainly not least, Boston University's Malik Thomas takes home StatSheet's America East 6th Man of the Week. Brenton had big numbers in scoring (8.5 pts per game), rebounding (9.5 per game), and assists (7 per game). The Stony Brook senior played well in a win versus Sacred Heart and a loss to Maryland.
Brenton led all rebounding for the Seawolves with 11 while adding 4 steals in a close 64-59 win over Sacred Heart. In the next game he led rebounding with 8 points and added 9 assists in a 76-69 loss to Maryland.
This is the first time this season that Tommy Brenton has been selected StatSheet America East Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is Maine sophomore Justin Edwards. Honorable mention goes to Maine sophomore Alasdair Fraser. The highest ranking player from Maryland-Baltimore County was Ryan Cook who finished 17th.
StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week: Stony Brook's Jameel Warney
Jameel Warney averaged 28 minutes starting both games for Stony Brook. His averages in scoring (17.0 pts per game), rebounding (6.0 per game), and blocked shots (3.0 per game) led all America East freshmen. In the win over Sacred Heart, Warney led all scoring for the Seawolves with 17 points and also pitched in 3 blocked shots. Following that in the loss to Maryland, he led all scoring with a 17 point show and added 3 blocked shots.
This is the first StatSheet America East Freshman of the Week award for Jameel Warney. Evan Cooper from Hartford gets runner-up. Honorable mention goes to Shaun Lawton from Maine. Aaron Morgan was the highest ranking freshman from Maryland-Baltimore County and finished 5th.
StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week: Boston University's Malik Thomas
Malik Thomas, a 6-7 Sophomore guard/forward, played 24 minutes during a lone game for the Terriers. In a 70-57 win over Cornell, Thomas took the lead in rebounding for the Terriers with 5 and added 83% shooting.
This is the first StatSheet America East 6th Man of the Week win for Malik Thomas. Clancy Rugg, a junior forward from Vermont, is runner up. Sam Rowley, a sophomore forward from Albany, receives honorable mention. Maryland-Baltimore County has yet to win StatSheet America East Player of the Week.
